The Strömgren sphere is an idealized model of ionized hydrogen shells around young OB stars or quasars. Though ideally symmetrical, common examples demonstrate asymmetry as a result of environmental factors like gas inhomogeneity, bow shocks, anisotropic stellar emission, or relativistic effects.
