Cachexia ( ) is a syndrome that occurs in people with certain illnesses, causing muscle loss that cannot be fully reversed with improved nutrition. It most commonly occurs in cases of cancer, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, and AIDS.
