What Wikipedia says
The Welsh Terrier (Welsh: Daeargi Cymreig) also known as the Welshie, is believed to have originated in the 1700s in Wales and was originally bred for hunting fox, rodents and badger; in the remote mountains of northern Wales, but during the last century, it has mainly been bred for showing.
