Dasyproctidae (from Ancient Greek δασύς (dasús), meaning "hairy", and πρωκτός (prōktós), meaning "anus") is a family of large South American rodents, comprising the agoutis and acouchis. Their fur is a reddish or dark colour above, with a paler underside.
