The Egyptian pound (Egyptian Arabic: جنيه مصرى [ɡeˈneː ˈmɑsˤri, ˈɡeni-] from English "guinea"; symbol: £; international abbreviations: E£, £E, LE; currency code: EGP; Arabic symbol: ج.م.) is the official currency of Egypt, introduced in 1834 to replace the Egyptian piastre.
