What Wikipedia says
Phospholipids are a class of lipids whose molecule has a hydrophilic "head" and two hydrophobic "tails." The "head" consists of a phosphate group, and an alcohol residue (usually a glycerol molecule) that connects it to the "tails," which are derived from fatty acids.
