What Wikipedia says
Common in Latin America, the Portuguese and Spanish-language term travesti (Spanish pronunciation: [tɾaˈβesti]; Portuguese pronunciation: [tɾavesˈtʃi]) can either be used synonymously with the English transgender, or used to specifically designate people who were assigned male at birth and develop a feminine gender identity.
