What Wikipedia says
Pinus contorta, the lodgepole pine, shore pine, twisted pine, or contorta pine, is a species of conifer in the family Pinaceae. It is a common pine in western North America, found near the ocean shore and in dry montane forests to the subalpine, but is rare in lowland rain forests.
